hav·oc (hăv'ək) : Disorder or chaos

Rather than try to force things in June, I'm just going to let it flow. There is too much going on in June for me. I'm afraid if I try to do too much, the only thing that will happen is a downswing.

I played enough Ring Games on last week to make sure I qualified for the Sunday, Monday and Wednesday freerolls. Actually was up pretty good, best hand was when someone went all in when I had Aces in the Big Blind. Bad move AK.

Last night played 2 SNGs, came in 6th and 1st. Up approximately $170 for June so far. Most likely I will not play much till the last week in June when I'm done with teaching and everyone is gone. It will be weird going from having 5 adults and 5 kids in the house to just Jacob, Karin and I.

Did an excel chart with my conservative, middle of the road and optimistic goals. I'll add my actual #s each month so I can see where I am at.

Turning Pro, Part II

My last post was cut short by the bell (Like I'm going to stay at school 1 min. later than I have too. :) ) Basically I was saying that I would have to run really well and get lucky in order to turn pro. When you add in all the retirement benefits of teaching, it would be stupid of me to quit without winning at least a million in some tourney.

So let's take a look at a more realistic scenery. I main goal is to live comfortably and within our means. If I have to work a real job, I want one that is not very demanding and I like to have a lot of time off. Well teachers are not paid a lot, and especially if you go to a more suburban school or private school there is no way to make as much as I do now teaching in an Urban environment.

What my main realistic goal for poker is to make enough where I could take a job at a school with less demanding students (well they would be a little more demanding, at least the administration and parents, when it comes to academics, but that is easy enough to handle when you have compendent students, teachers, administration and parents.) So how is this to be done?

In order for this not to happen, I would have to go on the worst run of my poker career. That's not to say I will meet each of these milestones when I say I will. These #s take into consideration major downswings, I expect some months to be higher some lower. Varinence is a bitch. But like I said, these numbers are pretty conservative (at least at the limits I play right now) given my historical performance.

June 1st, Bankroll 1800
playing some 25NL 6max, hopefully moving up to 50NL by the last week when I will be done with school. approx. 5K hands, 10BB/100 + bonus = $500

July 1st, Bankroll 2300
playing 50NL 6 max and full ring, taking shots at 100NL by the end of the month
25K hands, 10BB/100 + bonus = 1.5K

Aug. 1st, Bankroll 3K (Savings 800 + 1K already there = 1800)
playing 50NL 6 max (moving up by the end of the month) and 100NL full ring
25K hands, 10BB/100 + bonus = 2K

Sept. 1st Bankroll 3.8K (Savings 2K) 1K for bills
playing 100NL 6 max and full ring
10K hands, 10BB/100 + bonus = 1.3K

Oct. 1st Bankroll 4.1K (savings 2K) 1K for bills
playing 100NL 6 max and full ring
10K hands, 10BB/100 + bonus = 1.3K

continue this throughout the school year, the 2K in savings is so that if I have a down month, I still have money to help out with expenses. Remember this is an average based of my data. Most months I expect to do better than 10BB/100.

Nov. 4.4K, Dec. 4.7K, Jan. 2007 5K somewhere in the next couple of months make the jump to 200NL, but to continue to be conservative, I will use the same #s until the summer.

July 1st 8K
playing 200NL, 25k hands, 8BB/100 + bonus = approx 4K a month

If I can make it to this point, poker will enable me to pretty much work any type teaching job. So I should know after this summer. If I don't make it, it's off to plan B, (as in B for Bankruptcy....)

May was great, Hope I run this well during the summer!

May was a great Month. I am hitting all my goals and feeling pretty good. We shall see how long it will last.

May totals:
122.1 Table Hours
95.5 Real Hours
9.4 BB/hr
Total Bonuses: aprox. $175
Bankroll: $1800

The way it finished was great. I won a $500 freeroll for $150 to close out the Month!

Goals for June:
June will be a very busy month. We have a lot going on and school will be over on June 22nd. I would like to keep up the pace as far as hours go. Even if I drop off a little in the middle of the month because of all that is going on, I will have the last week to play full time.

I just deposited at 66poker (a B2B site) and will get a $600 bonus for putting in about 120 table hours. I will have to do this in 30 days, so I may be sweating a little at the end of the month. I will also have to play in EUROs which mean that 50NL will convert to approx $67 NL, which is over 25 buy ins. Looking for a 1K month!!

I’ve been thinking about what has to happen for me to become a pro within 2 years. I would have to have a great 2 years, but here is how it could work (no these numbers are not impossible, just on the optimistic side)
June 1st 1800 bankroll, playing 50NL, 5k hands, 20 bb/100 hands, $500 + 700 bonus
July 1st 3K bankroll, playing 100NL, 25K hands, 18 bb/100 hands, $4.5K + 1k bonus (1k to bills, 1K to savings)
Aug 1st 6.5K bankroll, playing 100NL and some 200NL, 25K hands, 18 bb/100 hands, 4.5K + 500 bonus (cutting back on bonus) (1K to bills 1K savings)
Sept. 1st 10 K bankroll, playing 200NL, 8K hands (start back to work) 15bb/100 hands, 2.4K plus 600 bonus (1k to bills 1k to savings)
Continues for school year
July 1st 2007 bankroll 20K (savings 10K) playing 400NL, 25K hands, 10 bb/100 hands,
10K per month (2k bills, savings)
Sept. 1 2007 bankroll 36K (savings 14K) play throughout the school year 8K hands a month 3.2K month (1k to bills 1k to savings)
July 1 2008 bankroll 46K (savings 24K)
Win at least one tourney and I’m there.
